The Heartland Opera Troupe was founded to introduce South Dakota children and residents to opera through accessible, professional performances and interactive presentations. A growing group, the musicians of the Heartland Opera Troupe have professional training and experience. The Troupe’s personal commitment to classical training and performance combines with a commitment to our neighbors in South Dakota which ultimately translates into fun, high caliber performances.

A World Premiere Work especially for South Dakota!

On November 16 2008, at the Performing Arts Center in Brookings, we premiered our new opera for South Dakota The Trickster and the Troll! This is an adaptation of Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve's wonderful book. The Heartland Opera Troupe commissioned Kristin Kuster to compose this chamber one-act opera. Our own Darla Biel wrote the libretto. We had such a wonderful response for our audience of more than 600. We thank everyone who helped make this event so incredible. It was truly a celebration of cultures in South Dakota.

Thank you to everyone who attended our performances of The Trickster and the Troll last summer. Over 2000 people attended the various performances around South Dakota. Look for more performances in May 2010 and July 2010 in your neighborhood. Or if you would like to bring our Troupe to your community click on Contact on the left to find out more information!
