The goal of the Heartland Opera Troupe is to encourage young people’s interest in opera and music, and to develop effective and supportive relationships with educators to encourage teaching of opera.

The Opera Outreach Program’s performances will introduce students to opera characters and their stories through entertaining, comic scenes with interactive portions often involving students in the presentation.

The Troupe will also provide teachers with historical information and age-appropriate lesson ideas in advance of the performances.

The operatic selections presented by the Heartland Opera Troupe will feature tales and topics familiar to children, parents, teachers and multi-generational audiences. Whether through the classic tales of Hansel and Gretel or Cinderella, or a more contemporary presentation of Green Eggs and Ham, it is the Heartland Opera Troupe’s ultimate objective to introduce opera to audiences in South Dakota.
